Metabolon's UPLC-MS/MS platform used in 2,3-butanediol isomer study on weight gain and glucose in mice (frontiersin.org)
0xBASE INTEL BRIEF
- 2R,3R-butanediol prevents weight gain on high-fat diet
- Metabolon's UPLC-MS/MS and 16S rRNA sequencing employed
- Increased liver indolepropionate and Bifidobacterium abundance
"Researchers at University College London used Metabolon's UPLC-MS/MS platform for liver metabolomics and 16S rRNA sequencing for gut microbiota analysis in mice fed a high-fat diet and treated with 2,3-butanediol isomers. The 2R,3R isomer prevented weight gain and reduced plasma glucose. Metabolomics identified increased indolepropionate and N-delta-acetylornithine in liver. Microbiome analysis showed increased Bifidobacterium abundance. The study suggests potential anti-obesogenic effects mediated by gut microbiota."
